Pom poms fly at Azle Youth Sports cheer camp

AZLE – About 200 kids attended Azle Youth Cheer Camp in early August at Santo Forte Junior High School, learning things they will need to know for the new cheer season.

The large turnout reflects the growing interest in the program and its positive impact on campers, said Lori Paschal, cheer commissioner with AYS.

“This camp is geared to teach material for the upcoming season,” she said. “Coaches have their rosters, and they encourage their cheerleaders to attend camp to meet their teammates and start working together as a team.”

The campers learned chants, cheers, and dances.

“The material they learned will be a great foundation of material for them to build off of,” Paschal said.

DJ Kip Kruger provided upbeat music to keep the energy high, and MC Tiffany Baisden maintained a smooth flow by giving instructions throughout the weekend.

“Staying efficient with time was a priority amongst the 13 cheer teams that were in attendance,” Paschal said.

About 30 volunteer coaches participated.
