Wild times at Azle Memorial Library

Posted

AZLE — Over the summer, Azle kids learned all about the animals that call North Texas home. Terri McNutt, conservation educator for the Texas Wildlife Association, visited the Azle Memorial Library July 30 with a veritable menagerie of animal bones, skins and other educational artifacts.

Groups of kids ages 4-12, took turns passing materials around the room to read about and get a feel for some of the animals they might encounter in their everyday lives.

“It’s very important for our younger generation to learn how to take care of what we have,” McNutt said in an interview with the Tri-County Reporter. “Today, we're just learning about wildlife and the difference between wildlife and domestic animals and some of their adaptations that they have to keep them safe … Teachers are welcome to invite us to come to your school, all of our programs are free. So, we just want to get the word out to as many people as we can, about how to take care of what we have.”

McNutt has worked for the TWA for a year but was a schoolteacher at Ponder and Northwest Independent School Districts for nearly three decades.
