Mary Flanagan

1929-2024

Our beloved mother, Mary Alice Thompson Flanagan, passed away peacefully April 23, 2024, with family by her side in Greensboro, North Carolina. Her strong will to live, unwavering faith in the Lord, and the love and prayers of family and friends never ceased.

The committal service will be held at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on June 11, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored by donations made in Mary’s memory to Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, Tennessee, 37214, or at www.gideons.org.

Mary and her loving husband, Tom, met in San Diego, California, and were married 47 years. In 1967 Tom retired from the United States Navy and they moved to Azle, Texas where they raised their family. One of her greatest passions in life was working with children. She was a school teacher at White Settlement Elementary and later at Effie Morris Elementary in Lake Worth, Texas. She taught for over 30 years and retired from Lake Worth ISD in 1993.

She was also a member of Northwest Bible Church in Fort Worth, Texas, where she worked with children in Vacation Bible School, Awana Club and Good News Clubs. Mary also enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Tarrant County Master Gardeners and was an avid reader.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Tom, sister Ruth Thompson Kauffman and brother Bill Thompson.

She is survived by her daughters, Susan Flanagan and Kelly Flanagan; very special nieces Mary Jo Stangel and Sarah Kauffman-Parry; sister-in-law, Anita Vacca; and extended loving family and friends.
