AZLE — Parker County Hospital District and Azle Independent School District partnered in the second week of October to help boost immune systems ahead of the flu season. As conditions start to get colder and drier, health professionals recommend scheduling an influenza vaccination soon.

PCHD staff were happy to visit Azle High School, Hilltop Elementary, Eagle Heights Elementary and other schools throughout the district to give out low cost and free shots for students, faculty and eventually all other members of the community. The health professionals said they began at the high school around 1 p.m. and in just three hours they had seen about 55 people and counting. They said getting vaccinated is important for staying healthy during flu season.

Flu season normally falls between October and May each year. The Center for Disease Control recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get the flu vaccine every season. The flu vaccine is especially important for people with chronic health conditions and those who have a high risk of developing complications from the flu including adults 65 years and older.
