At AHS auditorium ceremony, 37 students graduate with high school diplomas
On the evening of Monday, June 19, 37 Hornet Academy students were recognized at a graduation ceremony in the Azle High School auditorium.
Hornet Academy serves as a way for non-traditional students, of all ages and backgrounds, to earn their high school diploma.
Stormy Siefkas was in the audience that night to support her cousin, Kaylynn Lee Strickland, Hornet Academy graduate.
“I love her, I’m so glad she made it,” Siefkas said. “My nana graduated through Hornet Academy as well, so her getting to graduate through it is a great accomplishment and I’m just really glad that they have something like (this) they can graduate though.”
The Azle School Board and Hornet Academy staff congratulated graduates and welcomed them on stage one-by-one to receive their diplomas and be recognized.
“At some point, something in their schooling did not go as planned or part of the ‘traditional’ education pathway,” Azle ISD Superintendent Todd Smith said. “Our Hornet Academy program has allowed them to earn a high school diploma via another method. I am extremely proud of them for overcoming life barriers and accomplishing their goal.”
