LAKE WORTH — Lake Worth City Council proclaimed that July 1, 2024, will be known as Father DeWayne Adams day in the city.

On Aug. 20, Lake Worth city council honored the priest at St. Anne’s Church, the Rev. DeWayne Adams, for his dedicated service to the community.

Father Adams thanked the city council and said being in Lake Worth has been a dream.

“Thank you very much for this wonderful honor,” Adams said. “And I want to say that coming to this community is something that I didn’t dream of, but it's becoming a dream come true.”

Mayor Walter Bowen responded to Adams and said he had come to the best place.

Mayor Bowen gave some history about St. Anne’s Church. In Oct. 1947, 28 Episcopalians gathered to start a new mission in North Fort Worth. The members first met at places like the Rockwood Golf Course Club House and at Oakwood Cemetery.

The Episcopal group, which already had over 250 members, eventually purchased its 4-acre property at 6055 Azle Avenue and St. Anne's held its first worship service Sept. 12, 1965, in its new building.

Adams was the interim priest before being titled as St. Anne’s official church priest.
