Four members of the Azle Lady Hornets will be competing at the Class 5A Division I Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association State Meet this weekend in Frisco. The quartet qualified following their performances at the Region VI Meet Feb. 29 in Sherman.

SPRINGTOWN GIRLS SOCCER
The playoffs are next for the Lady Pines (15-4-1, 8-1-1 in District 8-4A) after a 4-1 win at Lake Worth March 5 and a shootout loss at Decatur March 8 after the teams ended regulation tied at 1-1. They finished second in the league.
Goals against Lake Worth were by Samanth Orozco, Icis Lopez, Kylie Wiens and Taylor Glover, with Wiens having two assists and Lopez and Orozco one each. Against Decatur, Reagan Kelley scored off a free kick from 40 yards out in the second half before the Lady Eagles tied the game with a minute-and-a-half to play.
Allison Kimball was the goalkeeper in both games.
“What a game last night. We unfortunately lost in penalties. The game can be cruel like that,” Springtown coach Ryan Byerly said. “As for my girls, this was a blood-and-guts performance from them. We completely owned the second half of the game until their goal at the end.
“The girls ran themselves into the ground. I was so proud of their fight. Allison Kimball was ridiculously sharp in goal all night.
“The whole team played their hearts out. It was great to see the group play that way going into playoffs because we proved to ourselves that kind of performance is in them.”
The Lady Pines will play Fort Worth Eastern Hills in the opening round of the playoffs March 25 or 26.
