Azle students discuss accomplishments and plans at Rotary Club meeting

AZLE — Four high-achieving Azle students were recognized as students of the month at an Oct. 5 Rotary Club meeting.

Shree Patel, who is ranked 14th in her class, is the daughter of Paul and Piyush Patel and is interested in attending Texas A&M University, the University of Texas at Austin — or Dallas — to study business and finance. Patel is on the A-Honor roll, is a National Honor Society (NHS) member and is a student athlete. Patel considers herself an empathetic extrovert and in 2022 was involved in a Health Science Clinicals Program where she worked full shifts at a long-term living facility to learn what it’s like to be a certified nursing assistant. Her favorite teachers are Ms. Roberts and Mrs. Jones. Outside of school, Patel is vice-president of the non-profit Suriti Leuva Patidar Samaj Youth.

Helen O’Neil is the daughter of April Reese and Charles O’Neil. She is interested in attending the University of Texas, University of North Texas, University of Texas at Arlington or Texas Women’s University to study pre-med; she is already a certified nursing assistant and patient care technician. She is ranked 11th in her class and competed in the district championship for the 3,200-yard dash. O’Neil was also president of Azle High School’s theater department. She considers herself very persistent and tenacious. Her favorite teachers are Tera Bradshaw and Kelsey Jones.

Paul Leonard is ranked 18th in his class and is the son of Shawnie and Paul Leonard. Leonard hopes to attend Brigham Young University for engineering. Leonard is proud of his good grades, his work ethic and his optimism. His favorite teachers are Ms. Reasoner and Mrs. Bevan. He played the Tin Man in Azle High School’s production of the Wizard of Oz last year. He has been involved in NHS, theatre, Peer Assisted Leadership (PALs), and chorale.

Madeleine Boivin is the daughter of Corrie Boivin. Boivin ranks 16th in her class and plans to attend UT Arlington, Texas Tech University, Texas Women’s University or Tarleton University to major in nursing or the health sciences field. She is proud of being head drum major for Azle High School’s Marching Green Pride and for getting a head start by having two semesters-worth of college credit. She considers herself adaptable, friendly and self-disciplined. She has been involved in band, choir, NHS, Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) and American Sign Language. Her favorite teachers are Mrs. Burnham and Mr. Davis. She enjoys volunteering with her church, crafting and sewing.
