AZLE — Halloween was a fun time here at the Azle Adult Activity Center. Fifteen people participated in the annual costume contest. If you had been here, you would have seen The Scream, a baby doll, a hobo and many other original costumes. Elvira Pettis (Wicked Witch of the West) and Mike Talmont (in a uniform) were voted the winners, becoming Mr. and Mrs. Halloween.

Costumes were just part of our fun. The monthly produce boxes were delivered and handed out. Meals on Wheels has made it possible to provide this advantage to those who come to the center to eat at least four times during the month. Each box contains a variety of produce such as potatoes, avocados, tomatoes, cucumbers and seasonal items as well.

A special thank you to the local merchants and restaurants who have so graciously provided gift cards/certificates for our bingo blackout prizes. Recently, Fred Harris won a $50 gift certificate for Italiano Capriccio. Bingo is Tuesday and Thursday each week at noon.

Though we are still waiting for the “go ahead” to start the exercise classes, we are happy to let you know Joyce Spikes — a licensed insurance advisor with MSA — is coming the first Thursday of each month to lead some exercises. The next class will be Nov. 7 at 10 a.m. All are welcome to participate.

Here at the center, we love and appreciate all veterans, and we take every opportunity to recognize and honor them. Therefore, we will be also recognizing them on the first Thursday of each month as well.

Our birthday/anniversary celebration for November will be the second Thursday. Nov. 14. Cake and ice cream will be provided by our friend Greg Runnenbaugh with Mutual of Omaha Reverse Mortgage. This month we celebrate nine birthdays and two anniversaries.

If you are looking for a place to meet new people or gather with old friends, we are the place for you. Open 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, the Azle Adult Activity Center is available for fun, games and fellowship.

Something new for musicians is the monthly Music Jam. Gathering on the third Friday of each month, a group meets at 10 a.m. to play their stringed instruments and have an old fashioned “jam session.” There is no preregistration to join this group of talented folks.

Do not forget the nutritious meals served here at the Azle Adult Activity Center. Prepared in the kitchen of Meals On Wheels Inc. of Tarrant County, all meals meet the requirements of the Older Americans Act nutritional program. Please call by 9:30 a.m. the day before you plan to eat with us. We offer two entrée options, and you can find our menu on the City of Azle website at www.cityofazle.org. Or call us at 817-444-0070 to place your order. Meals are a recommended donation of $2 each.
