Posted

AZLE — Two Azle High School seniors were selected as the Optimist Club of Azle’s Young Texans of the Month for October during a meeting Friday. Oct. 18. Amy Wang and Britt Haas were recognized by the club for their extracurricular and academic accomplishments.

Amy Wang

Amy Wang is the daughter of Ailian Chen and Kong Bi Wang. Wang is ranked 15th in her class with a grade point average of 102.5. After high school, she is interested in studying graphic design, interior design, journalism or sociology.

Wang considers creativity and reliability to be two of her biggest strengths and irritability to be a weakness. She describes herself as blunt, hardworking and ambitious.

“An accomplishment that I am proud of academically is being able to place in headline writing as the first alternate for regionals at the UIL Academic meet in Lubbock. This is because this was the first time that I was able to go to regionals in the 5-6 years that I have been participating in UIL from middle school to high school. Another accomplishment that I am most proud of is being able to be certified in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator as I am still able to use the programs efficiently and have an idea of what I will need to do if I do become a graphic designer.”

Wang said one unique thing about her is that she is currently trying to make a small jewelry business. She has competed in UIL Math and Science and will compete in UIL Journalism and UIL Ready Writing. She is the managing editor for The Sting student newspaper, a member of theater and the National Honor Society. Wang enjoys jewelry making, crafting, drawing, reading and listening to true crime podcasts. In the past she volunteered at The Porch Resale Shoppe.

Britt Haas

Britt Haas is the son of Justin and Eileen Haas. He is ranked 18th in his class with a GPA of 102.001.

Haas is interested in majoring in business. He is proud of his accomplishments in basketball, where he is varsity captain, and being in the top 10% of his class.

Haas considers his intuition and intuitiveness to be some of his biggest strengths.

“I am resilient, but not confident, I just need to believe in myself and what I can do,” Haas said.

Haas describes himself as athletic, thoughtful and funny. Along with being involved in basketball through the Amateur Athletic Union and the high school, he has worked at Main Street Tacos and the Brookshire’s grocery store.
