The Cross Timbers Chapter of the Native Plant Society of Texas is meeting Sept. 24 at Mount Pleasant School, 213 Raymond George Way in Weatherford.
A business meeting will start at 6 p.m., and at 6:30 p.m., Rufus Stephens will host the program “Land Stewardship for Birds and the Importance of Native Plant Communities.” He will discuss the alarming rate at which bird populations are declining and what landowners and managers can do to restore and enhance habitats to produce the cover, food and water birds need to survive.
Stephens co-authored “Land Stewardship for Birds: A Guide for Central Texas” with Jan Wrede. The book features 107 species of birds with descriptions and photographs of their habitats. Signed copies of the book will be available for purchase at the meeting.
