LAKE WORTH — On Nov. 18, Lake Worth ISD newly-elected school board members Cindy Burt and Cristina Gallagher took the oath of office during a regularly scheduled school board meeting.

Burt won place 7 by 388 votes as incumbent Chris Thomas had 1,499 while Burt received 1887 votes. Cristina Gallagher, who ran unopposed, won Place 6.

Lake Worth ISD Board President Armando Velazquez congratulated to Burt and Gallagher.

During the board meeting, Marine Creek Leadership Academy Principal Cedrick Miller honored individuals who are vital to the Lake Worth ISD community. One of those individuals is Katey Sanders.

Sanders is the attendance and registrar clerk and has been with Lake Worth ISD for four years.

"I have the opportunity also to honor one of the most hardworking people I've ever known,” Miller said. “The saying of ‘a person that wears many hats’ is an absolute understatement on the many jobs that she performs on a daily basis. We really appreciate everything she has done and we're so blessed to have her as a member of the MCLA family.”

The next individual to be recognized for the community recognition award was Lt. Matt Rietfors, who was introduced by Lake Worth ISD Superintendent Dr. Rose Mary Neshyba.

“Back when he was a sergeant, he was instrumental in working with the city and Lake Worth ISD because at one time, we had SROs that serve the Lake Worth Schools and schools in Fort Worth,” Neshyba said. “We didn't get the same level of customer service. Matt took that upon himself to work with us, coordinating with the city and the district to make sure that we got good customer service from the Lake Worth PD and all of Lake Worth ISD schools.”

Neshyba said even parents know Lt. Rietfors.

“It's made a huge difference with him knowing our students and with us working as a team,” Neshyba said. “You work closely with our families. I think parents know him by name.”

Then Lake Worth ISD Communication Coordinator Noah Ceballos honored and recognized the winners of the 2024 Lake Worth ISD holiday card. Those winners were secondary winner Destiny Montezuma and elementary winner Aubrielle Everage.

“For the 2024 Lake Worth ISD holiday card, this year, we're honoring an elementary and secondary student whose artwork will serve as the front and back covers for the district holiday card,” Ceballos said. “These students' artwork will be shared with many of our district partners and neighboring school districts. Thank you to these students for sharing their talents and allowing us to use their artwork to represent Lake Worth ISD.”
