1943-2024

Lona Delores Henderson Bookout passed away peacefully in her sleep Nov. 13, 2024, at the age of 81.

A celebration of life will be announced at a later date, where family and friends will gather to honor the vibrant life of a remarkable woman whose love, talents and spirit touched so many.

Born June 14, 1943, to J.E. and Lona Mae Henderson, Delores lived a life filled with love, talent and devotion to family.

Delores and her sister shared a unique bond, having married brothers, and spent their married lives as neighbors, often just a few steps or a short drive away. Delores’ marriage to Wayne Bookout was filled with joy and shared passions. Together, they raised a beautiful daughter, Kim Sellman, who resides in Azle.

Delores’ spirit was one of energy and talent. She was a highly skilled hair stylist with an extensive client base, including some local celebrities. Her creativity and dedication extended beyond the salon; she was an avid golfer, proudly serving as resident of The Ladies Golf Association at Par Country Club and winning the club championship multiple times. Her love for adventure led her to earn a private pilot license, embracing the freedom of flight. In later years, she channeled her artistic side into sculpting, creating beautiful pieces that filled her home and became cherished gifts to friends and family.

While Delores’ talents were many, her greatest joy was her family, especially her daughter, Kim. The bond they shared was deep and unwavering, a connection that can only be understood by those who have been blessed with such a profound relationship. Delores and Kim were inseparable, seeing each other nearly every day and sharing in every joy and sorrow. Kim has lost not only her mother but her best friend, her confidante, and the anchor of her life.

Delores was also a loving and proud grandmother. Her grandson, Tad, was a source of pride and light in her life, even helping to construct her home, which she considered a masterpiece. Her legacy continues in the hearts of her six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, whose lives she touched with her love and wisdom.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Wayne; and her youngest grandson, Brent Sellman. Delores is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Darlene Bookout, who resides in DeLeon.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Kim Sellman; grandson, Tad Sellman, and his wife, Hazel; her sister, Darlene Bookout; her great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchild, and her extended family, including nephew, Jim Elliott and wife, Connie; nieces, Kim Allen and Joy Elliott; father of Tad, Bill Sellman.
