LAKE WORTH — The Lake Worth ISD school board recognized lots of teachers, coaches and principals during its Oct. 21 meeting.
Board President Armando Velazquez presented a new recognition that LWISD will be awarding individuals and groups in the future called the community recognition award.
The first to receive this award was the Lake Worth Education Foundation. The foundation was founded 10 years ago and put together events like “casino night” and donated various classroom items to teachers over the years.
“The education foundation has actually had recent success that has allowed us to be able to do things such as honor our top 10 graduates and their families, which is a life changing moment for a lot of these families,” Velazquez said. “When you see the validation, all of the investment in kids' education, these families are able to sit with community members for a nice meal, paid for by the Lake Worth Education Foundation. It's a good time all around.”
The first group of individuals to be recognized were fifth grade teacher Heather Brumbalow and paraprofessional LaKristiana Britain. Both work at Miller Language Academy and their certificates were presented by Miller Language Academy Principal Jennifer Smith.
“Miss Brumbalow has a remarkable ability to make complex concepts accessible and engaging for her students,” Smith said. “She has also helped found the Bullfrog Running Squad, a program designed to encourage the love of fitness and teamwork among her students. With her hard-working spirit and commitment to her students’ growth, both academically and personally, Miss Brumbalow is not only shaping the future of her students but fostering a vibrant school community.”
Then, Smith introduced coach Britain to the board and audience.
“Coach Britain believes that every student has unique strengths and potential and she dedicates herself to highlighting and nurturing those qualities,” Smith said. “Her unwavering support and genuine care make a lasting impact, empowering our students to reach their goals and develop a love for physical activity that extends beyond the classroom. We thank you, Coach Britain.”
The next round of recognition was the human resources department and all LWISD principals. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott declared Oct. 9, as Texas Education Human Resources Day, a day set aside to recognize and honor the important contributions made by school staff who work in human resources.
“I can’t tell you how pivotal HR is to any organization, but more importantly, a school organization,” Velazquez said. “Even though today is not Oct. 9, we are still honoring our human resources staff.”
