The presidential election Nov. 5 provided the impetus for near record voter turnout in both Tarrant and Parker Counties.

In Tarrant County, voter turnout was 63.59% with 826,039 ballots cast of 1,299,023 registered voters.

Voter turnout was 70.65% with 91,206 ballots cast of the 129,092 registered voters in Parker County.

Former President and Republican Donald J. Trump defeated Vice President and Democrat candidate Kamala Harris in what is being hailed as a landslide. Now President-elect Trump received 312 electoral votes compared to Harris’ 226; Trump also won the popular vote by about 3.5 million votes.

In Texas:

Republican incumbent Ted Cruz handily defeated Democrat Colin Allred for one of two U.S. Senate seats in the state. Cruz garnered 5.97 million votes (53.13%) to Allred’s 5.0 million votes (44.5%). John Cornyn is Texas’ other U.S. Senator; his office was not up for election.

Republican Craig Goldman won United States Representative District 12 over Democrat Trey Hunt. Goldman won 58.23% of the electorate with 158,187 votes against Hunt’s 113,456. This district covers parts of Tarrant and Parker Counties. The seat has been held by Republican Kay Granger since 1997. Granger declined to run again for the Nov. 5 election.

Republican Brandon Hall won the District 11 seat on the State Board of Education, defeating Democrat Rayna Glasser. Hall won 56.96% of the electorate with 364,196 votes against Glasser’s 257,802. This district covers parts of Tarrant and Parker Counties. Hall unseated incumbent Patricia Hardy during a March 5 Republican primary. Hardy had held District 11 since 2003.

In Tarrant County:

Republican incumbent Bill Waybourn retained the Tarrant County Sheriff’s seat against Democratic challenger Patrick Moses. Waybourn won 53.72% of the electorate with 423,698 votes against Moses’ 365,193. This is Waybourn’s third time winning the position since 2016.

Republican Rick Barnes was elected Tarrant County Tax Assessor in a race against Democrat K.C. Chowdhury. Barnes won 55.54% of the electorate with 437,289 votes versus Chowdhury, who garnered 350,114 votes. Barnes unseated incumbent Wendy Burgess during a March 5 Republican primary.

Republican William Knight won the Tarrant County Criminal District Judge No. 2 position against Democrat MarQuetta Clayton. Knight won 54.53% of the electorate with 428,498 votes against Clayton’s 357,326.

Republican Douglas Allen won the Tarrant County Criminal District Judge No. 3 position against Democrat John T. Brender. Allen won 54.17% of the electorate with 425,274 votes over Brender, who got 359,808 votes.

Republican Chris Wolfe was elected to the 213th Judicial District judge position against Democrat Cindy Stormer. Wolfe won 53.59% of the electorate with 420,645 votes; Stormer received 364,349 votes.

In Parker County:

Republican Brent Hagenbuch won the State Senator, District 30 race against Democrat Dale Frey. Hagenbuch won 83.05% of the electorate with 43,083 votes against Frey’s 8,795.

Sharon Hayes defeated David Milhollon in the race for Parker County Hospital District Precinct 3. Hayes won 78.67% of the electorate with 12,650 votes against Milhollon’s 3,430.

Justin Lisle was elected to the Parker County Hospital District Precinct 4 against Gloria Gilbert Barron. Lisle won 61.47% of the electorate with 10,351 votes versus Barron’s 6,489.

Uncontested races are not listed. Terms begin in January.
