Donald "Don" Prater, born Aug. 22, 1935, went to be with our Lord Friday, Jan. 3, 2025. He was loved and known by many as a proud veteran who served our country.
A memorial service will take place at 10:15 a.m. Jan. 28 at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211.
Don was a mechanic by trade and worked for Texaco and Goodyear for 32 years. He moved to Eagle Mountain Lake in the mid 1970s, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Don was also an avid bass fisherman, served as fire chief in Pelican Bay, and worked for the Pelican Bay water department for 20 years.
Don left this world with peace, knowing he wanted to reunite with his wife in heaven. He was surrounded by his children and will be deeply missed.
Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Maxine; his parents; two children, Donnie and Doris; a granddaughter, Jessica; and a great-granddaughter, Ellie.
He is survived by his children: Robert and wife, Terrie, Viola, Jackie, Kay and husband Richard; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
