Briar-Reno Fire Marshal’s Office issues burn ban

Posted

RENO, PELICAN BAY, SANCTUARY — The Briar-Ren Fire Marshal announced a burn ban in effect Friday, Aug. 23. With this order, there will be no outdoor burning permitted without the approval of the Briar-Reno Fire Marshal’s Office for the next 90 days. This includes welding and the use of fire pits for social gatherings.

The ban on outdoor burning applies to the city limits of Reno, Pelican Bay and Sanctuary. Residents of unincorporated Tarrant County need to follow Tarrant County burn ban guidelines.

The severe drought conditions across several counties, including Tarrant County and Parker County, have prompted the ban on outdoor burning to protect lives and property.

The Keetch-Byram Drought Index shows drought conditions for all counties in Texas.

The Texas A&M Forest Service supports the request for an outdoor burning ban.

A violation of the ban prohibiting outdoor burning is a Class C misdemeanor with a fine up to $500.

The fire marshal’s office encouraged all residents, in a press release, to take safety measures during this time of extreme drought conditions.

For residents in rural areas, the Briar-Reno Fire Marshal’s Office recommends keeping a perimeter of approximately 30 feet mowed around homes and outbuildings to prevent a fire from reaching those structures. Residents should also remove unwanted combustible debris and vegetation away from their homes and be sure to keep water hoses accessible in the event of a small fire.
