AZLE — During a Dec. 17 Azle City Council meeting, City Manager Tom Muir introduced Stephen Barnes as the city’s incoming finance director to council members and attendees. Barnes replaces Martin Avila, who served as finance director since December 2023.
Barnes has a master’s degree in accounting from the University of Texas at Arlington and more than 20 years’ experience in municipal government finance, including seven years as a finance director. He is a Certified Government Finance Officer and has worked in areas of finance for cities such as St. Petersburg, Florida, Phoenix, Arizona and various agencies within the state of Texas.
“I am very excited to have been chosen to join the City of Azle Team and looking forward to assisting the City to achieve its goals,” Barnes said in an email to the Tri-County Reporter.
