AZLE — The South Hills Scorpions haven’t won a football game all season, and the Azle Hornets plan to keep it that way.
The Hornets will travel to Fort Worth’s Clark Stadium in a rare Thursday night contest against a district foe.
Jumping back into the action is something Azle is looking forward to after coming off a 41-19 home loss to The Colony on Oct. 20.
“It will be a quick turnaround and a different week because of the Thursday game, but we like that we get to get back on the field ASAP,” said head coach Devon Dorris.
The Hornets played well overall during the loss to The Colony but were hampered by several tough bounces, including allowing two onside kicks in the second half.
For the Hornet offense, Christian Mendoza caught 5 passes for 85 yards and 2 touchdowns. Cash Moore logged 7 catches for 90 yards. Others making catches were Payton Blann, Hagen Hughes, and Jon Lardizabal.
Hughes ran for 44 yards, and Lardizabal rushed for 28.
Leading tacklers were Adan Sandoval, Tyler Ulrich, Josh Montelongo, Cale Cohen, Jamie Ramirez, and Bryan Moya.
Braden Forsythe kicked two field goals and a point after attempt.
Sandoval averaged 43 yards on two punts and placed one kick inside the 20-yard line.
After the game, the Azle players shook hands with their opponents, showed resilience and determination, and met the next day at the Azle field house to watch game-film and lift weights.
The Hornets strive to “respond in the right way” to any situation they face, win or lose, Dorris said.
Azle will play at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 26, at South Hills in Fort Worth.
