AZLE — Students at Azle High School are settling into a new year and are excited to mark their return with the annual homecoming celebration. The 2024 Azle High School Homecoming Parade will travel down Azle's Main Street on Monday, Sept. 30, beginning at 6 p.m. The Hornets will take on Birdville for the homecoming game on Friday, Oct. 4, with kick-off at 7 p.m.
During the game two students will be given the title of homecoming king and queen. The homecoming court consists of king and queen nominees and homecoming princes and princesses who were elected earlier this month.
Homecoming princesses and princes lined up outside the school’s competition gym for a photo. Row-by-row, students paired by grade level from the front to the back, left to right: freshmen Bailey Seward and Auston Morgan, sophomores Nadia Vidal and Colton Cook, juniors Jessie Johnson and Cole Johnson.
Senior king and queen nominees joined the huddle just behind them: Haley Carlson and Dylan Maines, Haylee Hefley and Britt Haas, Brooklyn Young and Jayden Saez, Chloe Hennessy and Braden Sirkel.
These students will sit in their pairs across four cars traveling down Main Street for the homecoming parade. One king nominee, Jayden Saez, spoke with the Tri-County Reporter about his excitement for the event and his chances of being named king in two weeks. Saez is on the varsity tennis team, a recent addition to the school improv troupe and is student council vice president.
“The fact I made it here shows a lot for me,” Saez said. “I didn't really expect to be nominated at all. So, I’m really excited for it, and I do think it's an honor to be able to be on the court and be alongside everyone else too… I feel like I have a high chance of becoming king. (The other nominees are) also very good people. I know they also have high chances of winning. So, I wish them luck as well. I hope all of us do well, especially with our canned donations. I really hope all of us are able to collect a lot to be able to donate to the Community Caring Center.”
