AZLE — In celebration of Texas Arbor Day, Azle Mayor Alan Brundrett visited Azle Elementary School Monday Nov. 4 to gift the students with a new tree on campus and to speak on the importance of green spaces in the community.
The city declared Nov. 2 Arbor Day in Azle in a ceremony several days prior but participated in activities around the community to advocate for the benefit of trees in the days that followed. According to a proclamation read by the mayor, trees are vital in reducing erosion, moderating temperature, cleaning air and providing habitat for native animals. The mayor also compared the planting and care of new trees to the nurturing and growth of Azle students.
Azle Elementary School student council members were heavily involved in the ceremony and planted the newly delivered tree by the school’s back entrance.
