Army soldier surprises sister in emotional reunion

Posted

SPRINGTOWN — Springtown Intermediate School student Kyra Peninger was surprised by an unexpected visitor that showed up to her class Friday, Oct 25.

Army Soldier Landen Jones surprised his younger sister by showing up to her class Friday afternoon alongside Peninger’s mother Valeria Russell.

Peninger was so startled by her brother's shocking entrance that she stayed in her seat for a few seconds then got up to hug her brother. Peninger’s classmates started asking Jones questions about the military and the students remarked how cool that was.

Peninger’s teacher said the student doesn’t normally show a lot of emotion, so seeing her reaction to her brother’s homecoming was sweet.

Jones has been at Fort Eisenhower in Augusta, Georgia, training in cyber security and hadn’t seen his sister for more than 10 months. Russell remarked that after the reunion, she was going to take her daughter and son to lunch together for the first time in a long time.
